TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Vegetables are nutritious foods, and many have a high fiber content. Not infrequently, people who suffer some disease such as GERD or also well known as reflux are advised not to consume certain nutritious vegetables.

Unlike other diseases, people with Stomach Acid are not allowed to consume some types of vegetables. Research said some veggies will only trigger more stomach acid to come. And that will only make things worse. 

GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) or stomach acid is a condition in which the digestive tract in the body becomes irritated. Often this disease is considered the same as an ulcer because it has the same symptoms.  Although, in fact, they are different.

like it or not, when you have GERD, you can no longer take these vegetables. It's kind of torture for the taste but it will keep you alive and live longer. Taken from several sources, there are some types of vegetables that people with GERD should avoid to.

1. Chili

This type of vegetable has many devotees, especially the people of Indonesia. However, if you suffer from GERD, it's time for you to reduce your consumption of chili.

According to the Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, capsaicin in chili peppers is not suitable for consumption over a long time. The resulting hot and spicy taste will spread, and burning symptoms will also affect the stomach, which can cause stomach acid to rise.

The high acid content in tomatoes makes this vegetable be avoided for people with GERD. That, if left continuously, will trigger high acid reflux. As a result, stomach acid that is owned will relapse or be more severe.

3. Cabbage, Mustard, and Scallion

If consumed by a person, these three types of vegetables will cause a large amount of gas to be produced. That's because the high gas content in Cabbage, Mustard, and Shallots needs to be watched out for by everyone.

Especially for those of you with GERD, these three vegetables should be avoided. The condition of a bloated stomach due to a lot of gas will trigger an increase in stomach acid in the body.

4. Cauliflower

Cauliflower is one of the many vegetables that have a long digestion time. Raffinose or complex sugar owned by Cauliflower needs to be avoided by those of you with GERD.

Our body does not have many certain enzymes to digest the complex sugars in Cabbage. The length of time the body digests will cause the formation of gas in the body, which is confident that the amount of gas in the body will trigger an increase in stomach acid.

Apart from the above, there are other vegetables that people with stomach acid or GERD or also known as reflux need to avoid, such as celery, asparagus, garlic, onions, peppermint, peppers, radishes, and many more. So for those with stomach acid, pay attention to the vegetables in your food.
