TIMESINDONESIA, PANGANDARAN – As one of the southern part of West Java, Pangandaran has been well known to have dozens of beautiful beaches that will captivate your heart. And one of the is Karapyak Beach. Little did you know, this place has such interesting legends behind it.
The local believes that this beach has such a strong relation with the story of Prabu Dewata Cengkrang. He was the bizarre king of Galuh Medangkamulyan. The local historian Erik Krisna Yudha Astrawijaya Saputra spill out the story which now believes as just a folk lore.
According to Saputra, Prabu Dewata Cengkrang started to have an evil side when his cook back then accidentally cut off his finger when he cook and the rest of the finger get in the king soup. The king taste a fond meat and asked what kind of meat it was.
The cook told him the truth that it was one of his cut finger. Aside of angry, the king give such a perplexing expression. "Since then, he wants every of his meals to have human meat in it," Saputra said.
His bizarre and mind blowing behaviour makes everyone worried that someday they will the one served in the king soup. It's because each time some one has to be scarified to fulfill his ego. And then, a hero named Ajisaka came.
Ajisaka was a local with certain magical power. He just surrendered himself to be slaughtered and eaten by the king with one condition, that the king should give him a land as wide as his head band. And the king agreed.
The magic begin when Prabu Dewata Cengkrang started to take of Ajisaka head band. The band was infact so long and unmeasureable, as if it has no end. The king who was tempted to taste Ajisaka meat kept measuring it until without he even notice, he was reaching a cliff which end up in the ocean.
Ajisaka realized it and just swap his head band which makes the king flustered to the ocean right on the Karapyak Beach. And that bring a peaceful to the kingdom. Ajisaka was then appointed as the new king of Galuh Medangkamulyan Pangandaran back then. (*)
