UNESCO Assessors' Experiences During Their Visit to Ijen Geopark

TIMESINDONESIA, BANYUWANGI – The assessor team of UNESCO Global Geopark feel so blessed and happy after their visit to several destinations at Ijen Geopark. As we all know they came to assess the credibility of Ijen Geopark to be lit up as one UNESCO Global Geopark.

There were two member of assessor Martina Paskova and Jacob Walloe who landed on Banyuwangi (8/6/2022). They both stayed in the city for 5 days (9-13 June). During those days they visits some tourists attraction at Ijen Geopark which included into the assessment lists.

"We both could see ourselves how beauty is this place. It's an amazing place for sure," Martina said after watching the Gandrung dance performance at Taman Gandrung Terakota, Licin, Banyuwangi.

Gandrung dance is included in the itinerary list they need to assess. Gandrung is thelocal traditional dance involving gamelan (local traditional instruments) with beautiful harmony of music and movement.

Still according to her, she was amazed by those beautiful places she visited.  "There are lots of beautiful and potential places to see. The local community hospitality, interesting culture, heritage geopark, and many more," Martina added.

Both also happened to visit the local junior school. According to Martina, this school and the local community being so supportive towards the geopark. That they will be a strategic partner to develop the geopark in the future.

"We will let the authority of UNESCO knows. We absolutely supports Ijen Geopark to be part of Global Geopark network," Martina said during her tour in Banyuwangi. (*)
