TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTAThere is another Middle Eastern dish that you can make yourself at home. This time the Lebanese-style Red Lentil Soup will be the nice thing to decorate your dining table during Iftar. This recipe was made by a Lebanese and had been  published by The Guardian recently.

This red lentil soup is somekind of festive food served by Lebanese usually at their family gatherings and certain occasion like Ramadan. During Ramadan this soup becomes a refreshing soup that will warm your body.

Back then, this soup was served rather rustic and coarse. Ass in modern day, people sometime choose a smooth and creamy soup with the help of blender.

Ingredients:

150 g red lentils (wash and dry)

50 gr rice (wash and dry)

Chicken block

1.5 liters of water

2 cloves of shallot (chopped)

4 cloves of garlic (crushed)

Pinch of finely chopped coriander leaves

2 tbsp butter

1 tbsp tomato sauce

1 tsp ground chili

Salt

Instructions:

  • Add the lentil, rice, water and chicken block in a pan. Bring it into a boil. Let it simmered for at least 45 minutes.
  • Put the butter in another pan heat it. After it melts, sauté the shallots and onions for a minute.
  • Add tomato sauce, ground chilies, and the celery mix it evenly for at least minutes.
  • After all the ingredients are ready, mix the two ingredients together and the red lentil soup is ready to be served.

To get a smooth and creamy texture you can process it further using a blender. The ingredients for this Lebanese red lentil soup could be obtained easily in some Arabian or Middle Eastern grocery stores.
