TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTAThailand is known as their culinary and their unique traditions in it. Not just unique, it was very famous indeed. There’s one dish that become the iconic dish in Thailand that mostly become the favorite dish in Indonesia that is the Tom Yum.

The word tom yum in tagalog means boiled veggies. It’s because mostly the ingredients were made of simmered vegetables with some additional local ingredients. The taste will be a little bit sour for it use some lime juice in the making.

Tom Yum contains a lot of different ingredients in it such as lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime leaves and lime juice. this dish will be served on hot pot to maintain the temperature.

There are two different kinds of Tom Yum such as the Tom Yum Gai that contain chickens in it and Tom Yum Talay with the seafood. Both has slightly different taste for the ingredients. No matter what, each of them will bring back your energy after a long exhausting day. 

Tom Yum was firstly founded at Chao Phraya since it has many shrimps around the river. The people who live in there always use those shrimps as their main ingredients for their Tom Yum.

Nowadays, you could find Tom Yum anywhere in the country, from street food vendor to fancy restaurant. This Thai dish will cost around IDR 25 K to IDR 65 K /set depends on the ingredients and toppings you ordered. (*)
