TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Children of all ranges of age, including toddlers are using gadgets regularly these days. They might even throw a tantrum if prohibited to do so. So, is there any rule of thumb that can control the use of gadgets on toddlers?
A pediatrician from Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Soedjatmiko, mentioned that toddlers should only play with their gadgets for not more than an hour a day.
Soedjatmiko also mentioned that although the ideal time limit for a toddler to play with gadgets is one hour, it would be best if parents divide the limited time into separate playtimes. For example, toddlers can play for 15 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes in the afternoon, and use the remaining time in the night.
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, Soedjatmiko said that there is no adverse impact of using gadgets for less than an hour for toddlers.
Besides the duration, Soedjatmiko also recommends all parents guide their toddlers during their playtime with the gadgets. Don’t let the gadgets bring adverse impacts to your toddlers’ social life.(*)
