The Students of Untag Banyuwangi Help the Locals Created Their Own Snacks
TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – During this pandemic, where people becomes jobless for lots of company trying to reduce the number of their employees due to lack of income, the students of Untag Banyuwangi (Universitas 17 Agustus 1945 Banyuwangi) keep creating more ideas to help them become independent. They produce their very own snack to sell.
The snack was made from the local commodity such as sweet potato and Californian Papaya. Their produck is so called Stick Pepaya California (Californian Papaya stick) and Carang Ubi Jalar (grated sweetened sweet potato).

They do this during their community service program at Rayud, Parijatah Kulon, Srono, Banyuwangi, East Java. With this products they intended to help the local community to stand with their own feet even during this hard time of pandemic.
"We must boost the economic empowerment of the local community during the pandemic based on local potential, because this is what will support them to go through difficult times," Nindha, a student of Untag Banyuwangi said on Tuesday (27/7/2021).
Nindha also said that they purely take the ingredients from the local farm. This is one of their way to help the local to raise their product values as well to make them earn more income. "We hope that the products could be an iconi local products in the city," Nindha added.

Toward this products, the tudents of Untag also teach the local to use an modern and attractive packaging to attract the customers. "We used zip lock kind of packaging to wrap our product in interesting way," Novan, another students of Untag who happened to join the community service program.
The students of Untag Banyuwangi also teach them the modern way of marketing through online and some marketplace like Shoppee, Tokopedia, Bukalapak, or Go Food. They also open a way for them to stay in touch with local market or souvenir shop to distribute their products.
