Galuh Kingdom of Situ Lengkong Ciamis and Its Brief History

TIMESINDONESIA, CIAMIS – Situ Lengkong Ciamis really has something to offer. The beauty of local scenery, the Nusa and everything about it make this place becomes so outstanding. Little did you know  it holds the secret of Galuh Kingdom.

Situ Lengkong or Lake Lengkong is located at Panjalu, Ciamis, West Java. This place is surrounded by chains of mountain from  Mount Sawal, Mount Bitung, Mount Cendana and Mount Cakra Buana.

Lots of people coming to this place for its beauty. They commonly use those mountains as the background while catching a perfect moment with their camera.

Back to Galuh Kingdom, this lake was a living proof of the kingdom existence back then. This lake was merely a district area at the kingdom. Here said, there was lots of royal family lives in this area.

"Sanghyang Borosngora is the first king to establish the kingdom. He is also the first muslim king of Galuh Panjalu," Haris R Cakradinata,.S.E., the 18th descendant of King of Panjalu said.

Still according to him, the three islands located at the lake were formerly inhabited by by the next king of Panjalu. "The Nusa Gede (the biggest island) were inhabited by King Hariang Kancana," he added. 

Lots of artefact were found at this area. Ancient scrolls, menhir, several stones for offeringbor ceremony. Those all were believed to be the heirlooms of Galuh Kingdom.

Commonly all the heirlooms will be annually during Maulid (a month at Hijr Calendar). This will be a nice parade to see. People walks to Situ Lengkong Ciamis while carrying the heirlooms of Galuh Kingdom and wash them. (*)
