A Dentist of UIN Malang said Dental Brace was Not Made for Fashion

TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – Dental brace was not meant for fashion, that's what drg Arief Suryadinata Sp.Ort, a dentist as well a lecturer at Medical School of UIN Malang said about it. He said it towards his concern of misused of dental brace nowadays.

Fixed orthodontic appliances, also known as braces, are apparatuses used for orthodontic treatment and are commonly used among teenagers. Certified orthodontists use braces to move unaligned teeth until they become well-arranged.

Orthodontic treatment has become an expensive service in some clinics. There have been a long waiting list at the loca government clinics and patients with severe disorders will be selected. So people will tend to choose more expensive treatments at non-government clinics.

Hence, the high cost of treatments using braces confers luxury prestige to this apparatus. "Someone was suggested to do orthodontic treatment if they have preventive orthodontic, interceptive orthodontic and or curative orthodontic," he added.

This 46 year old dentist also explained each of the issue he said. According to him preventive orthodontic was used to maintain a normal development of teeth and gum. The treatment could be applied since the fetus were on the womb or since they were born.

Meanwhile, interceptive orthodontics was used when the new teeth has grown to keep the malocclusion away. And the curative orthodontic was used to correct to appearance of malocclusion.

Sadly, with the expensive cost of this service, some people will tend to find a quicker and cheaper solution by visiting those illegal clinics.  They tend to just wear it for fashion without thinking of what kind of risk they will get later.

"Regarding to its major impact to your mouth, you better took it off right away if you were using dental brace without the right treatment from a professional orthodontist," this Dentist and a lecturer of Medical School of UIN Malang said. (*)
