Quest Hotel Surabaya has an Exotic Christmas Tree Made of Batik
TIMESINDONESIA, SURABAYA – To celebrate the Christmas, Quest Hotel Surabaya has a distinctive way to show. This hotel made a Christmas Tree of Batik with the help of Embran Nawawi, a local designer.
“We would like to preserve the local heritage and make it into an asthonishing art through this tree,” General Manager Quest Hotel Surabaya, David Eko Susanto said on Saturday (5/12/2020).
The Christmas tree which made of Batik is standing tall on the lobby area. It’s 3,5 meter height. It’s made of 51 layers of Batik with a total length of 100 meters. The designer has planned this masterpiece for a month before the Tree Lighting Ceremony.
“I used duct tape to stick thee Batik onto the structure. All the batik is save from the pin, and will look like a brand new after its being untangled later,” Embran Nawawi said.
Embran who loves Batik so much would like to accentuate the local Batik. Most of the Batik were using local pattern from East Java and Madura. “I fall in love to Batik since the first time I saw it, the gray combinations make it look so exotic,” Embran added.
At the end of Christmas, the Quest Hotel Surabaya will make a bid for the Batik. Anyone who has the highest bid will be allowed to take those pieces of Batik home. (*)
