TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The first actor to portray James Bond, Sir Sean Connery has died aged of 90. He had just celebrated his 90th birthday on August 2020. Thomas Sean Connery, named Thomas after his grandfather, was born in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland on 25 August 1930.
He was appearing in 7 thrillers of James Bond and was taken for granted as the best James Bond ever. This was acknowledged by Sam Neill, a New Zealand actor which was almost appointed as the next James Bond on his twitter.
“Every day on set with #SeanConnery was an object lesson in how to act on screen. But all that charisma and power- that was utterly unique to Sean. RIP that great man, that great actor,” Sean Neill wrote on his Twitter.
Supporting Neill, Roger More the actor to portray the British secret agent James Bond in seven feature films from 1973 to 1985 said the same thing about Connery.
“How infinitely sad to hear the news Sir Sean Connery has passed away. He and Roger were friends for many decades and Roger always maintained Sean was the best ever James Bond. RIP,” his Twit says.
According to BBC Connery died overnight in his sleep, while in the Bahamas. It is understood he had been unwell for some time.
During his acting career for decades, he has received many awards included an Oscar, two Bafta awards and three Golden Globes. He got an Oscar in 1988 as best supporting actor for his role as an Irish cop in The Untouchables.
Sir Sean Connery's other films included The Hunt for Red October, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and The Rock. Sir Sean Connery was knighted by the Queen at Holyrood Palace in 2000. (*)
