Dolly: From a Place for Sex Tourism to an Enchanting Bird Market

TIMESINDONESIA, SURABAYA – People used to know Dolly, Surabaya as an area for sex tourism destination. But now, this place has been changed into one amazing place which is used by the local community as bird market.

Located at Jl. Kupang Gunung Timur I No 14-16 Surabaya, not only they sell beautiful exotic birds, you could also find some people offer mesmerizing agate stone.  

The local government arranged the market on 840 meter wide area in modern end look. This palace has just been officially opened by the Mayor of Surabaya herself, Tri Rismaharini on Wednesday (21/10/2020).

“What more important is that the local community could raise and stand on their feet and take as many as advantage they could from this market,” Risma said during the grand opening.

Beside the enchanting birds and agate stone shops, you could also find some other products such as flip flop, batik, crackers and some other local treats and beverages.

Not only those tempting products, this place also equipped with poles for bird contest. It’s also equipped with 4 restrooms, an office, a small praying room, and adequate parking lot.

There around 26 vendors spotted opening their store in this market. It is hope that Dolly bird market Surabaya could be one tourist destination that attracts visitors to have some souvenir before they go home to their place. (*)
