Coffee Beer, A Unique Non-Alcoholic Beer of Jombang

TIMESINDONESIA, JOMBANG – I know you were interested to this article after reading the title. Beer in Indonesia? In this biggest moslem population country? But it’s true, this Coffee Beer of Jombang offers you a beer drinking sensation without alcohol. How come? Let’s check it out.

The beer sensation we are talking about here is the beer bottle of Coffee Beer. As its name this drink is merely a coffee pack in a bottle. It contains no alcohol, only some sugar, water, carbondioxide, caramel sugar, soda, coffee and some local herbs.

“I started the business on 1990. I have been dealing some obstacles but I survive till now,” Mrs. Mintaredja the owner of Coffee Beer said on Wednesday (16/9/2020).

When most soda drinks use can as their packaging, Coffee Beer stays with their bottle. Yet, this make the drink have an authentic look either from the packaging or the taste. The local community called this drink as soda lemonade because it tastes like those thing but with a little coffee flavor in it.

Now this soda drink could be found at the local online marketplace. The online marketing was the idea of the students that happened to do their social service at her company. Yet who knows this will raise their market.

“The students asked me to offer this drink online. And I said yes, and since then, we have more orders coming for this Coffee Beer,” Mrs. Mintaredja added.

This non-alcoholic drink even steal the governor of East Java, Khofifah Indah Parawansa’ attention. She feels proud about this drink and and posted her appreciation on her Instagram account.  

“Jakarta has Bir Pletok, and East Java has Coffee Beer. Though it has the word ‘Beer” in it, and packed in a bottle, this typical drink of Jombang is absolutely halal and made without alcohol,” the Governor said on her Instagram. (*)
