TIMESINDONESIA, SEMARANG – The local community of Kalisidi, Ungaran Barat, Semarang, Central Java found out a new technique to save some of their money on gas by creating biogas from their cow manures. The even have their own digester at the local area.
Triyoso a local guy looks so busy back and forth with a full shovel of cow manure in his hand. He was busy filling the digester at the local shed with cow poo. He seems enjoying his job without getting distracted by the smell of the manure.
“I get used to it. It no longer affects me. We work in shift,” Triyoso explained the way they works at the enclosure.
He also explained that all the manure they had will be divided for two purposes, the biogas and for fertilizer. The digester they have could accommodate around 1500 kg of cow manure from 100 local cows.
The idea was brought by the students of Diponegoro University while they did their social service. Now that they have left Triyoso and 70 other local guy work together to keep the shed running and producing biogas and fertilizer.
This guy also said that the biogas has helped the local community saved their money. “We use it for cooking and to turn on the local generator for electricity,” Triyoso added.
This biogas of cow manure could be one solution to handle poverty in the country. As your information, Central Java has around 1.715.204 cows, 136.495 swines and 66.860 buffalo that make this province very suitable to produce more biogas from manures. (*)
