TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – As an Islamic State University, UIN Malang celebrate the Eid El Adha on Monday morning (3/8/2020). Eid El Adha is the last of the two Islamic holidays (The other one is Eid El Fitr) celebrated worldwide each year.

As any other Eid El Adha celebration, the university also sacrificed several cows and sheep. Eid EL Adha was aimed to honour the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God’s command.

Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this intervention, an animal (usually a sheep) is sacrificed ritually. It’s a way of Islam to teach a sincerity.

One third of the meat is consumed by the family offering the sacrifice. While the rest are distributed to the poor and needy. Some people would also visit their family during this time.

“We hope that this ritual could always be performed on our university. It has become one of our program to care to those who need,” The Rector of UIN Malang Prof. Dr. H. Abdul Haris M.Ag said.

There are around 8 cows and 17 sheep were sacrificed on this university. Those domestic animals were given by several people and by Bank Mandiri Syariah.  “Thank you everyone for your kindness and for supporting this program, God bless you all,” The Rector of UIN Malang added.(*)
