Toba Caldera Finally Acknowledged as Unesco Global Geopark

TIMESINDONESIA, MEDAN – The local community of Medan must have felt so proud that the tourist destination they mostly proud of, Toba Caldera has now been acknowledged to be UNESCO Global Geopark. With a stunning view and active volcano in the middle of the lake this place has really stole world’s attention.

Located in in Medan, North Sumatra Province, with its level-up status, this place will surely hook the world’s heart. “This place is so wonderful and has given so much advantages to the local community, and I believe the management must to prepare themselves to welcome more surge of visitors coming to this place,” Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wishnutama said.

Still according to him, this tourist destination still has more to come. The management could even create a new attraction to make this place more interesting such as in geodiversity, biodiversity, and culture diversity aspects.

He also said that this gives the country more chance and responsibility to boost their economic development and sustainability. It will also give more chance to the local community to introduce their culture as well took a chance to introduce their products to the visitors.

Toba Caldera which was acknowledged as UNESCO Global Geopark known to have an exotic landscape of a volcanic massive explosive volcanic eruption which formed caldera. The basin of the caldera filled with water forming a lake which occupies 90 x 30 km2. You could also find an island in the middle of the lake that makes this lake looks more enchanting called. This beautiful island is so called as Samosir Island. (*)
