TIMESINDONESIA, YOGYAKARTA – Cassava has become a common staple food other than rice for several Indonesian community. Some of them will make it as basic ingredient for their cake. Just like what Yogyakarta community did by turning this wonderful food into sawut.

Sawut is local traditional cake made of grated cassava. Not only in Yogyakarta, you could also find this delicious cake in several area in Indonesia. You could find this exotic taste of cassava in several bakery. But mostly you will easily to find this cake in local conventional market.

Some people sometimes will add with brown sugar to get the sweet taste as well brownish color. Some will just add a little bit of salt to make the taste more savoury. Either with brown sugar or not his cake will always be served with shredded coconut on top of it.

A little bit of sugar and salt will be sprinkled on the coconut before it put on top of the cake get tits real delicacy.

It’s quite simple to make this food. You only need to grate the cassava and prepare the shredded coconut. Stem both of them in different place for about 30 minutes. let it sit for a while till its warm, and you could start serving it the way you wanted.

For the sweet one, you could mix your cassava with brown sugar before its steamed. Add a little touch of vanilla for the flavour. You could also add some pandan leaves to make the fragrant more tempting.
