During the Dutch colonial era, Cirebon was the official central government with the name of Resident Cheribon. That’s why there were many government buildings, such as Resident Kantoor, Telegraph en Telephone Kantoor, De Javasche Bank, Port of Cirebon, and the list goes on.
We can find many buildings from the Dutch colonial era with European and Art Deco architecture. Until now, some of those buildings function as offices, and the rest of them had been abandoned and ruined.

The Head of Department of Youth, Sports, Cultures, an Tourism (DKOKP) of Cirebon, Agus Suherman, stated that the Old City of Cirebon can be the new tourism destination. It has a strategic location, so it will be easy for any tourists to visit it.
“We will complement the area in the Old City of Cirebon to attract more visitors,” he said to TIMES Indonesia.
The other potential areas, such as Chinatown and the Arab Village will also be complemented, as they are near to the Old City of Cirebon.
To make it complete, they will invite historians and cultural practitioners to explain the history of Cirebon, such as the history behind street names, myths, legends, and so on.
One of the locals in Cirebon, Reza (40) showed his enthusiasm for the new tourism destination in the old city of Cirebon. He wanted his city to be popular for its historical tourism destination. “Cirebon has many historical buildings. That’s why, it is very suitable to be a new tourism destination,” he said. (*)
