Payako an Indonesia Awaited Treat That Only Served During Celebration

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – A holiday celebration such as Christmas, Nyepi, Chinese New Year, or Eid Al-Fithr always brings such joy to us. Especially there will belts of food served during these time, either the traditional treat such as Payako or the modern one such as those fancy cookies.

Today were going to talk about Payako or commonly called as Koya, a traditional treat with plain taste, not too sweet neither salty or savory. Yet, that's what make the taste becomes more exotic.

This snack made of glutinous rice flour and sugar. Some people will added ground green beans to add the flavour. The texture is so soft till once you bit it it will melt on your mouth.

“Nowadays, people make Payako in different shape. And all of them are super delicious to me," Siti Muawanah, a local citizen said.

Still according to her, lots of people has modified this traditional treat to be able to fit the modern people's taste. They fill it with ground roasted peanut, ground green beans, or sometimes chocolate.

"Each time I eat Payako (Koya), it reminds me of my childhood," Siti added. This treat is really a wonderful treat to have during celebration. (*)
