TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Lots of people consider butter and margarine as the same. Little did they know, those two has a major difference. But both are widely use as one of ingredients in cooking.

"Butter is a dairy product made of cream or milk whereas margarine made from plant-based oils," President of Indonesia Pastery Alliance, Rahmat Kusnaedi said on Kompas.

Still according to him, the color of butter will be slightly creamy yellow whereas margarine will be a bit golden yellowish and shiny.

In addition, he also said that butter will melt in around 30°C and margins could last for hotter temperature i.e 35°C.

Although butter and margarine have different components, both can contain large amounts of different fats. Not all fats are damaging to health, however, and saturated fats may not be as harmful as researchers once thought, according to one 2018 article. This remains controversial.

People commonly use butter in cooking, baking, and as a spread. Whereas margarine is a substitute for butter. So people widely tend to use butter instead if margarin.

Although butter and margarine have different components, both can contain large amounts of different fats. And as you usually do, limit your daily intake of margarine and butter and have healthy lifestyle. (*)
