TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Various methods are already used to prevent the coronavirus or COVID-19 infection to any further point and some methods include the use of disinfectant and antiseptic. Antiseptic and disinfectant products are now sought after by many people in the market.

Both substances have the same impact on killing viruses, bacteria, and germs. There are differences between both substances that you need to know.

As quoted from Health Line, antiseptic is a substance that slows down microorganism growth. Antiseptic widely used in hospitals to reduce infection risk during operation or any other medical procedures.

Antiseptic also varies for different medical needs. Antiseptics are divided for their different uses, for operation and non-operation. Antiseptics used for operations usually contain other substances and are orange in color. Rub antiseptic on your hands and arms to use it.

Non-operation antiseptics are usually clear or light blue and in the form of hand rub (gel or liquid to be applied to the hand), hand soap, and alcohol swabs. Antiseptics also widely sold in form of hand sanitizer, wet tissue, spray, and wound medicine.

Meanwhile, disinfectant is a substance or process that kills germs, bacteria, or microorganisms that might cause infection through inanimate objects. Some disinfectants contain strong chemical substances and also have toxic properties, thus the use of disinfectant on the human skin or any other creature is strictly prohibited.

As quoted from cancer.gov, disinfectant usually contains hydrogen peroxide and sodium hypochlorite. Both contents can be found in bleaching liquids and can effectively kill viruses, bacteria, and fungus, 10 until 60 minutes after applied to any objects.

During the coronavirus infection prevention period, antiseptic or hand sanitizer usually known as hand disinfectant. Apply these substances on your skin. Meanwhile, disinfectant is used to kill microorganisms on inanimate objects, such as tables, chairs, doorknobs, handles, light switches, remotes, etc. (*)
