Giant Petai Found in Central Java

TIMESINDONESIA, BANJARNEGARA – The local community of Panawaren Village, Sigaluh, Banjarnegara, Central Java just found a giant Petai (stink bean, bitter bean) that makes your jaw drop on the floor.

Normally, petai that emerges as long, twisted, translucent pods in a cluster of ten or twelve pods will have 30-35 centimeter long and 3-5 centimeter wide.

But this giant petai that was found in Pringamba Conservation Forest has a huge size with around a meter long and ten centimeter wide.

"For now, we haven't ensure yet whether this fruit included as one of petai family or not. But, it emerges the same as petai," The Chief Officer of Sigaluh Police Department AKP Priyo Jatmiko said on Tuesday (24/3/2020).

In addition, Jatmiko also appeal all the local community not to consume the fruit since they still don't know what it contains. Little did they know that it taste bitter and probably poisonous.

Meanwhile, the Head of Agriculture and Food Security Department of Barnajarnegara, Central Java, Totok Setya Winarna explained that the giant petai is not meant to be consumed. And normally the local community will just use it as traditional toy for their kids.(*)
