TIMESINDONESIA, TUBAN – There is some superstition that Koleman, a local tradition of Tuban community could keep the bad spirit away especially before the harvest time.

This tradition is normally held by the local community of Talun village, Montong, Tuban, East Java. They usually will hold the ceremony right before the season where grain of the rice comes up.

There will be lots of tumpeng (cone shape yellow rice) paraded through the village and stop in the public field. They will exchange each of the tumpeng to one another at the end of the ceremony.

A rooster will be released in the middle of the field which will be catched by all the community attending the ceremony. Those who could catch it can have the rooster.

"By this ritual, we hope that on the harvesting season to come, we will have a good number of product," Abdul Basif, The Chief of Talun Village Tuban explaining about the Koleman(*)
