“The merchants usually close their kiosk at 10 PM and then replaced by foods and beverages vendors, they have their daily shift,” as mentioned by Rizal, a local of the Malioboro district, Monday (10/1/2020).

Rizal also explained that the merchants’ carts and kiosks are put into certain alleys in the Malioboro district, entrusted to the local securities and will be taken by their owners the next day.

Rizal mentioned that each site is used by at least three different vendors which shift daily.

Every day at 10 AM – 10 PM the trinkets and souvenirs vendors dominate the place, at 10 PM – 4 AM the coffee and midnight snacks vendors dominate the place, while at 4 AM – 9 AM the breakfast vendors dominate the place.

Several minutes between those shifting time, the Malioboro district will be less crowded than usual. But several places will remain crowded, such as a spot beneath the street sign of “Malioboro”. (*)
