Netflix Commits to Support Indonesian Movie Development

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The world’s biggest streaming source, Netflix, committed contribute to the development of the creative industry, especially the film industry in Indonesia. Especially after they officially signed the cooperation with the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.

It was also stated by Netflix’s Managing Director for the Asia Pacific Region, Kuek Yu-Chuang in the press conference with the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim in the Ministry Office in Jakarta, Thursday (9/1/2020).

He claimed to be impressed by the Indonesian films available on Netflix. With this cooperation, hopefully, there will be more Indonesian themed films on Netflix.

“We believe there will be so many great stories produced from Indonesia. Through these initiatives, hopefully, we can contribute to the development of creative communities in Indonesia. Netflix also hopes that these stories can bring unique themes about Indonesia and can be enjoyed by audiences all over the world,” he said.

Besides, Kuek Yu-Chuang also hoped that the cooperation will not only be able to develop the already available talents in Indonesia but also increase the potential of the creative ecosystem on a wider scale.

“The purpose of this cooperation is to create a stronger creative industry together, that could attract even more investments, thus produces even more quality creations that are enjoyable by the world,” said Kuek Yu-Chuang.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture, Nadiem Makarim wished that with the cooperation with Netflix, Indonesia will be able to improve a lot in the world’s film industry. “We hope to make Indonesia the most suitable filming location in the world,” he mentioned. (*)
