Meet the Pygmy Hippo at the Bali Safari and Marine Park

TIMESINDONESIA, DENPASAR – Bali Safari and Marine Park had just introduce their newly born pygmy hippo as their family member. The beautiful pygmy hippo which was born on July 31st 2019 has become the first hippo breed in captivity.

"The pygmy hippo was taken cared under her own mother supervision because we believe the natural bound between them is the best way to treat them," the curator assistant of Bali Safari and Marine Park, Drh I Kadek Kesuma Atmaja said.

Still according to him, their team not merely took their hands off from the pygmy hippo, they keep enervating them by following their routines like how many times in a day has it been breastfed, or how bout their digestion, and another activities.

To stay alert the park even put some CCTV on the area with night vision. This observation will be kept untill the baby save enough and able to do all the thing by itself and starting to have some normal diet.

This herbivorous species which oftenly has grass, carrots, and fruits on their diet could live around 30-35 years. They conceived their baby for about 6 to 7 months. The pygmy hippo in Bali Safari and Marine Park also considered as rare species since there were only 2000 left around the world. (*)
