Let's Take a Look what The Tengger Communuty in Preparing the Kasada Ceremony

TIMESINDONESIA, PROBOLINGGO – The Tengger community starting to prepare some offering namely known by the local community as ongklek. These ongklek will be thrown away deep in to the Bromo Mountain crater at the Kasada ceremony.

Alkost all the Tengger community looks so busy making the ongklek kn their yard. They will put everything they had like basic needs, fruuts and others. Some coconut along with its flower, banana flower, edelweiss, and some veggies are attached onto tge ongklek.

The tradition was started from long time ago when two local citizens Roro Anteng and Joko Seger sacrificed their son as an offering to the Bromo crater to fulfill their promise. And thus tradition was kept till now by the local communities.

“As their inheritance we made these ongklek as a substitute for the human offerings, we made it look like a human as well," Bejo, a local public figure said on Wednesday (17/7/2019).

Every village around the Tengger area was supposed to make at least 2 ongklek to be offered to the Bromo Crater during the Kasada ceremony unless they just had one of their villager which passed away. This ceremony is scheduled to be held by Thursday 18th July 2019.
