TIMESINDONESIA, BATAM – A huge, exotic and beautiful temple has become a symbol of tolerance between religions in Indonesia. Yes, the Vihara Samudra Dharma Mentaro or the Samudra Dharma Mentaro temple Batam with its exotic architecture will take you to admire its beauty as well amaze you with it story behind.

“This Vihara was at first just a small wooden building which was built in the 1970. And now on its 29 years anniversary the small building has turned in to a beautiful gigantuvmc place to pray," the Head of Samudra Dharma Mentaro Foundation a.k.a Aheng said.

Still according to him, there has been lots of domestic and foreign tourists that visit this place. Lots of them came from out of this area like Jakarta, Pekanbaru, Medan, Jambi, and Kalimantan. Some foreign tourists from Vietnam, Thailand, China, India, and Hongkong also spotted on this area.

Moreover, he also explained that the temple was built by lots of cross-religion workers. The statue ornament was built by a moslem sculptor and the landscape architect was made by a catholic.

There are several room built on this 2 ha area of the Vihara Samudra Dharma Mentaro or the Samudra Dharma Mentaro temple Batam like the praying room, the Dharmasala for the preaching room, the hall, a Budhhist school, cafeteria, some office and a stage to held some performance or ceremony.(*)
