Sleep deprivation could affect the brain. If you get enough sleep, the brain cells could work optimally. We need to sleep around 7 to 8 hours a day to improve your memory. Besides, enough sleep could decrease the risk of Alzheimer and make your brain more creative.

2. Lack of socializing

Humans are social beings. That’s why we need to socialize. One of the best ways to socialize is by talking to others. When you are talking, you change your thoughts and feelings into language. Simultaneously, your brain is working in order to understand the thoughts and the feelings of the person whom you are talking to. As a result, your brain will be stronger and more responsive.

3. Multitasking

The researchers in the University of Stanford found that the people who have a lot of information and activities could have a problem with their memorizing capability. Another research from the University of London also found that multitasking could decrease the IQ level around 15%.

Meanwhile, the other studies found that the multitaskers have a higher risk of permanent brain damage. The researchers found that multitaskers have less dense brain, particularly in the anterior cingulate cortex, the part of brain that functions to control empathy, cognitive, and emotions.

4. Working while sick

Forcing your brain to work or study when you are sick is a very bad thing because the energy needed for recovery is used to finish the tasks. Forcing your brain to work during the recovery could weaken your body’s immune system.

5. Skipping breakfast

Skipping breakfast could damage your brain. A research in Japan found that the people who often skip breakfast has a higher risk of stroke and hypertension. According to the researchers, the blood pressure decreases after breakfast. That’s why having breakfast regularly could decrease the risk of cerebral hemorrhage.

6. Consuming too much sweets

 

Consuming too much sweets could affect the absorption process in our body that could lead to malnutrition. Brain needs enough nutrition in order to work optimally. A study in 2011 showed a strong relation between sugar intake and the cognitive function of the brain.

7. Drinking alcoholic beverage

A research in British Medical Journal observed the impact of consuming alcohol to the brain. This study observed the cognitive ability of more than 500 adults in 30-year period.

The researchers found that the participants who drink 15 to 20 glass of alcohol in a week have a higher risk to suffer from hippocampal atrophy, which is the damage in the brain part that controls memory and spatial navigation.

Those are the daily habits that could damage your brain. Therefore, in order to keep your brain healthy and work optimally, try to avoid those habits. Instead, start having a healthy lifestyle, such as having nutritious foods, having regular exercise, and getting enough sleep. (*)
