TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – If Taj Mahal was built as a tomb by Shah Jahan for her beloved wife than Indonesia also has an almost similar story. Ratu Kalinyamat one of a famous Indonesian queen at that time built Mantingan Mosque in Jepara and a tomb beside it for her beloved husband King Hadlirin.

Taken from kemendikbud.go.id King Hadlirin was killed by Arya Penangsang for they fight over the throne of Demak Kingdom after King of Demak Raden Trenggono died. Hearing about this, it makes Ratu Kalinyamat devastated. Like the whole world was falling on her.

To entertain herself, the queen made a tomb and a Mosque beside it. She asked for the Chi Hui Gwan a.k.a Patih Sungging Badarduwung's help to design the mosque. Having a Chinese as the architect and made in the Hinduism and Buddhism era make this Mosque assimilated to those three era.

This 5century years old which is built in 1959 has around 114 relief which was patched in the mosque's wall. Flowery, geometric and some animal motives dominate the relief on this Mosque.

Beside King Hadlirin tomb, there are also some other tombs like the Ratu Kalinyamat's, Raden Abdul Jalil (Syekh Siti Jenar) and several relatives of Ratu Kalinyamat her self.

This Mantingan Mosque, Jepara never been quiet from the visitors. There are always some people visiting this place to pray for the deceased or just admiring the history.(*)
