TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Do you ever feel the burning sensation in your stomach after eating Spicy food? It is common to feel the burning sensation after eating spicy food. Spicy food could stimulate the digestion system and increase the body temperature. This burning sensation is caused by the substance called as capsaicin found in chilies.

When capsaicin comes in contact with the stomach lining, the nerves in that part directly sends the sensation of burning and pain. However, this reaction does not happen to all people. How can we counteract the burning sensation in the stomach after eating spicy food?

1. Drink some peppermint tea

2. Avoid cigarettes, alcohol, and caffeine

Smoking after eating spicy food could worsen the burning sensation in the stomach as it could weaken the stomach muscles. This condition could push up the gastric juice to the esophagus. Caffeine and alcohol also give the same effect to your stomach.

3. Drink some milk

Most people have known that milk could relieve spiciness. Indeed, milk could neutralize the acid from the spicy food that you consume.

However, you should not drink milk too much because it could cause discomfort in your stomach. You may drink a half cup of milk and sit upright for 30 minutes to relieve the burning sensation caused by spicy food.

4. Eat some fruits and vegetables

It is better for you to eat some fruits or vegetables before or after eating spicy food. Fruits and vegetables could neutralize the capsaicin in chili.

5. Drink some yoghurt

Drinking some yoghurt can be a good way to relieve the burning sensation after eating spicy food because yoghurt can increase the number of the good bacteria in the colon that could improve the digestive system.

Spicy food is delicious and could increase your appetite. However, it is important for you to know how to counteract the burning sensation in stomach after eating spicy food. If the burning sensation gets worse, it is better for you to see your doctor. (*)
