TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – YouTube applies a new policy related to the content uploaded on this video sharing site. This policy is taken to address harmful content that is often found on their platforms. YouTube updates a policy that prohibits dangerous challenges or pranks.
Quoted from the Cnet page, pranks banned in this new policy are those that cause physical injury because these activities violate YouTube regulations. YouTube prohibits the content contains violent or dangerous activities.
"YouTube is home to famous challenges and jokes. But, we have to make sure cuteness doesn't over the line so that it turns to be dangerous," YouTube said.
Through these new regulations, YouTube also prohibits pranks that can cause severe stress to children, including those that can make life-long trauma.
The new YouTube policy came after Warganet was troubled by the Bird Box challenge, it was inspired by a film that has the same titled it was by doing activities with cloth-covered eyes. Many content creators upload funny content about activities with their eyes closed, however, there are few activities make this challenge dangerous.
YouTuber Jake Paul once attended the Bird Box challenge, he used an eye patch while crossing a busy road. He was also recorded while driving a car with eyes closed.
As a result of this challenge, Netflix, which broadcasts Bird Box, must issue an official statement requesting the audience not to do dangerous activities if they want to imitate this film. The challenges of other dangerous content that have appeared on YouTube include the Tide Pod challenge, eating solid and round shape detergents. (*)
