Electric Vehicles Targeted to Start Production in 2025

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – The Indonesian government targets electric vehicles, both motorcycles and cars, to produce fully in the upcoming 2025. At present the government is preparing fiscal infrastructure and facilities to support the effort to enter the electric motor vehicle industry.

"Electric motorbikes are one of them, if motorbikes are in a practical sense simpler and we deliver the target in 2025 both the motorbikes and cars will be 20% using electricity," said Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto.

What the government is going to do in the near future, according to the Minister of Industry is to prepare a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) for its fiscal policy plus whose requirements are eligibly that fulfill the requirements to use the facility. Because the initial stage will definitely start with 0 percent import duty for this electric vehicle-based vehicle. Then the PPnBM was also lowered.

Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto also said that the government is open to the brand holders of electric motorized vehicles from abroad who will enter Indonesia. "What is opened is a system and facilities whether it wants all new brand or brand holders all of them are opened," he said, adding that this also applies hybrid, electric vehicle, or vio sol.

When asked by reporters about the timing of  the Perpres concerning the electric motor vehicle is signed, the Minister of Industry said, after this is resolved, of course there is a consultation between the finance minister and the House of Representatives Commission XI, then it could work.

Can it be said that in 2019 we have started production for motorbikes? "Production is not yet in 2019," said Airlangga.

But the Minister of Industry acknowledged, for electric motorbikes there were already production, various brands already had production. So that if the Perpres is clear, then this will be stimulated.
