The World Human Rights Day, 13 Human Rights Violations are Investigated

TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Since its establishment 25 years ago, the National Commission on Human Rights has investigated 13 gross human rights violations. Three of them have been decided at the Ad hoc law court, namely the case of East Timor in 1999, Tanjung Priok 1984 and Abepura in 2003. The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, Ahmad Taufan Damanik revealed it when he was opening the commemoration of World Human Rights Day at Royal Kuningan Hotel, Jakarta, Monday (12/10/2018).

Meanwhile, there are still 10 other cases that have not been completed to date, namely the May 1998 riots, the Trisakti and Semanggi I / II tragedies, the enforced disappearance of activists in 1997/1998, the Wasior and Wamena cases.

Other unfinished human rights violations were the Talangsari Lampung case, the Mysterious Shooting case, and the events of the 1965 massacre, the Jambu Keupok Aceh incident, and the simpang KKA Aceh incident.

"In a meeting with President Joko Widodo on June 8, 2018, the National Human Rights Commission has submitted a request to the President so that the cases will be immediately followed up by the Attorney General as investigators and prosecutors," he said.

It was stated, the process of resolving cases of human rights violations is currently considered to be protracted. According to Taufan, this certainly hurts the rights of victims to legal certainty and justice.

Well, at the commemoration of World Human Rights Day on December 10, Komnas HAM established four themes, namely the finishing gross Human Rights violation in the past, Human Rights-based agrarian reform, handling the rampant radicalism intolerance, and extremism with violence, and improving institutional governance.
