TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Many people think that strokes only attack the old people. But, it’s wrong. Young people in their teens or around 20 years can also get a stroke. So, what causes stroke at a young age?

This fact is justified by internal medicine specialists from YPK Mandiri Hospital, Central Jakarta, Dr. Arief Wibowo, SpPD. He explained teenagers in their teens could also get strokes, especially mini strokes.

"To find out how big the risk of having a stroke, the people must recognize its trigger factors. First, is there a history of family members who have a stroke from father or mother," explained Arief, as reported by the Bintang Tabloid.

The older will have more at risk of stroke, especially if he/she is over 55 years old. Then, the next factor is from aspects of an unhealthy lifestyle. This refers to three things, namely the frequency of exercise that is rare, obesity, and hypertension, "he added.

In addition to the health history of parents, the frequency of exercise, obesity, and hypertension, another thing that makes the risk of stroke is the consumption of drugs. Arief said that taking amphetamines, cocaine and marijuana also triggers strokes at a young age. (*)
