Through ORI Movement, Dinkes Bondowoso Gives Diphtheria Vaccine

TIMESINDONESIA, BONDOWOSO – Through ORI (Outbreak Response Immunization) movement, Dinas Kesehatan (Public Health Office) Bondowoso held an immunization program or diphtheria vaccination simultaneously.

This immunization is the second round in July and August 2018. Until now, the scope of this vaccination has reached around 51%.

 “The target of this second event of ORI is the people from age 1 to 19 years old that reach up to 200,000 individuals,” said the Head of the Public Relation of Dinkes Bondowoso, Sugianto, and the Section Chief of Immunization Surveillance of Dinkes Bondowoso, Tuhu Suryanto on Friday (3/8/2018).

Putu added that ORI was divided into three rounds. The first round had been done in February to March. The second one takes place in July to August, while the third round will take place in November to December.

He explained further about the scope of the second diphtheria vaccination that should reach 90%. He said that it should reach 90% as the minimum so that they could protect the community in general.

 “Currently, Dinkes keeps doing immunization by visiting the schools. Besides, they also visit some houses of the residents that had been listed in Dinkes by using their names and addresses,” he continued.

He said that diphtheria is very contagious and dangerous. This disease is transmitted through the air. The symptoms are bone pain, low-grade fever, and white patch in throat.

He suggested the society to maintain a clean, healthy lifestyle, such as no spitting, washing hands, eating healthy foods, and so on.

Meanwhile, the data from Dinkes stated that the diphtheria case in Bondowoso has decreased in number in 2018.

 “There used to be diphtheria outbreak in Bondowoso in 2011 with 45 cases. Three of them had passed away,” he said.

He also suggested that all people in Bondowoso should join ORI movement to give diphtheria vaccination. They should do the vaccination regularly. (*)
