Want to be Librarian and IT Expert? Major in This Study Program at UIN Malang

TIMESINDONESIA, MALANG – The new program study at UIN Malang becomes the favorite of the prospective freshmen, especially for those who want to be a technology of librarian. The name of the program study is Perpustakaan dan Sains Informasi (PSI) or Library and Information Science.

At UIN Malang, PSI program study has been opened this year. The Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education published a decree no. 294/KPT/I/2018 in March 2018 about the establishment permission of Library and Information Science program study.

 “At Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Library and Information Science program study becomes the part of the Faculty of Science and Technology,” said Faizuddin Harliansya, the Head of the Central Library of UIN Maliki Malang.

Although it is new, PSI has become the favorite of the prospective freshmen. “My dream is to become a librarian and IT expert. So, I think this program study really fits my need,” said Rofi, the prospective freshman from Jombang.

Generally, the curriculum of this new program study includes some aspects, such as university studies (23%), librarianship (23%), humanities (11%), social science (20%), and science and technology studies (23%).

The subjects in university studies (23%) are aimed to build graduates that have strong faith, good spirituality, and morality.

 “Meanwhile, the other subjects focus on building graduates that have broad knowledge and professionalism,” said Faizuddin.

That’s why, he hoped that the subjects of librarianship and the subjects of science and information technology could build graduates that have comprehensive competencies, the information professional graduates that are ready to apply their knowledge in various sectors, such as education and industry.

In the educational sector, he continued, the graduates of this study program could be a librarian, such as academic librarian, research librarian, scholarly communication librarian, school librarian, teacher librarian, public librarian, information literacy librarian, and so on.

“Meanwhile in industrial sector, the alumni of this study program are prepared to be information professional that could be digital strategist, knowledge manager, record manager, archivist, web-content manager,” he explained.

The dean of Faculty of Science and Technology, Dr. Sri Harini, added that the graduates of Library and Information Science study program from UIN Malang are prepared to be experts in the sphere of library and information science. (*)
