TIMESINDONESIA, JAKARTA – Many people feel sleepy when they are watching TV after a few minutes. Evidently, watching television with a certain volume can indeed stimulate drowsiness, which finally makes us fall asleep.

Reported by Kompas, based on a National Sleep Foundation survey, 60 percent of Americans watch televisions before go to bed.

Many people think that sleeping in front of a television really make them feel relaxed and sleep soundly. In fact, this habit is not recommended.

Television emits of blue light that can interfere the body and brain. In addition, many of electronic media including the internet, which is used as sleep stimulation, can actually reduce the quality of sleeping.

The opinion about the benefit of sleeping in front of the television is really debatable. According to Jain, too loud sound volume from television can prevent the body into sleep mode. In other words, the time needed to fall asleep will be longer.

However, watching movies we've seen so many times can also offer a sense of familiarity and comfort, which brings drowsiness.

Lying in bed while watching television can actually make us fall asleep, but it doesn't a soundly sleep.

To prevent the negative effects of blue rays emitted by television, experts recommend installing the automatic shut off TV setting.

Although you can be sleepy while watching television, but you should better to choose other activities that are not related to electronic devices such as reading, meditation or writing journals to stimulate drowsiness. (*)
